Labor Day Weekend

We went further north about four hours to camp in Humboldt State Park for the four day weekend. There was hiking, forest exploration, bike riding, bug collecting and treasure hunting (geocaching). We came back smudged and smoky, but relaxed and happy.

And We Thought Squirrels Were The Problem

We've been feeding several pairs of ducks that have beening regularly hanging around in our front greenbelt, and most of them are pretty friendly with us now. A few of them will even come up on our porch and make a sort of quacking-muttering sound while looking in the front door, apparently alerting us to the fact that more birdseed needs to be served, pronto. Then, J went to bring in the plate the other night and found this:

We could actually see the snails sucking on individual seeds. I think the squirrels put them up to it.

To The Rescue!

See more photos

This little guy was found under the bushes in front of our place by a neighbor. Knowing the crazy animal people we are, she asked if we could hold on to him until the wildlife rescue arrived. While we were keeping him warm and calm, we did a little research and figured out that he's probably about 5-6 weeks old. He may have sprained one of his legs when he fell out of his tree, but the wildlife person said they'd get him fixed up and release him back into our neighborhood when he is old enough to fend for himself. L is hoping he'll recognize us when he comes back and that he might show his gratitude by having a tea party with her or something. Mostly we're just glad he's going to be ok.

E Learns Something New

What a birthday it's been! A full 3 days of partying, day trips and playing with new toys. In addition to that, E learned something new - he can ride a 2 wheel bike now WITHOUT training wheels! Lucy tried it too and is almost there. E almost had a triple feat when at bedtime, he (with John's coaxing) began to try to pull out his extremely loose tooth. Birthday, bike riding and missing bicuspids would have been too much to hope for. We're just really happy that the birthday party went off without any crying episodes! Yea us!

Pescadero And Beyond

Just before New Year's, we were lucky enough to be able to stay in a beach house belonging to one of John's friends. The house itself was wonderful, with incredible art, beach views and access to a private beach. From there, we had fun exploring some other areas on the coast. Not a bad way to end the year!

Halloween

Lucy & Elliot had a grand ol' time for Halloween (click on picture above to see all the photos). Lucy went as a pink poodle and E went as a tornado, and both were very happy with how their costumes turned out. The kids were worn out after a school party and trick or treating at two different locations. To avoid the extended sugar consumption, and because E can't eat dairy or much artificial coloring, the kids agreed to turn over their candy in exchange for a $15 shopping spree at the store of their choice. E chose a cool pirate ship playset and L got a new stuffed dog, a small doodle bear and a Hello Kitty keychain. The result is happiness , healthiness and sanity!

Zoo Day

Zoo Day

Sorry it's been such a long time since the last update. I've had some technical difficulties and am now trying some new ways of sharing pictures. I'd love feedback from the viewer side, so let me know what you think. Click on the picture to see the photos from our recent visit to the SF zoo.

Mind The Gap

Lucy lost her first tooth! It's been loose for quite awhile, and she finally wiggled it free. The tooth fairy will deliver a long-lusted-after Care Bear and a Sacagawea dollar. Reasoning that the fairy would come more quickly if she went to sleep fast, L was out in less than five minutes. Too bad we can't use this routine every night.
